This amazing 41 year old Compressor has been owned by producer Calum Malcolm from new, he has been a customer of ours since the 1980's and now he is approaching retirement he has asked us to find a buyer for this prized compressor. Calum's client list is amazing, covering 6 pages of A4 and includes such names as Simple Minds, Wet Wet Wet, Fish, Prefab Sprout and Mark Knopfler from the Pop/Rock section plus numerous other artists and many recordings of Traditional and Classical music plus Jazz and music for TV and film and so it goes on, a lifetime of recording.
If you are genuinely interested in The Neve 33609 compressor you can eMail Calum at calum.malcolm@outlook.com to find out more about it and negotiate a deal but please be aware this is a special and expensive piece of equipment and Calum is a canny Scotsman so no low cost bargain here but a unit you will be proud to own
This is what Calum wrote when he contacted me about his vintage Neve compressor
I’ve decided to sell one of my last remaining pieces of proper kit.
It’s a Neve 33609 stereo compressor/limiter, bought new from Neve in (I think) 1983.
It’s the original ‘metal knob’ discrete design, in really excellent condition, including the technical manual & schematics.
It has been my principal stereo buss and vocal compressor for over 40 years, used on all the Blue Nile albums and literally hundreds of other records!
How good is the Neve 33609 ? Don't ask me, I am just a salesman and as you know a salesman will sell you anything, I always tell my customers if you want to know how good something is don't ask me, ask the people who use it. This time I have given you a few videos to watch
This a review of a later model of the 33609, when Calum's compressor was made Neve was owned by Rupert and AMS was a separate company . Calum's compressor has Marinair transformers. I have included this video as it is more technical and covers more about the design and make up of the compressor than the previous video
Finally a studio owner/songwriter/producer's opinion. this is what Jack Bennet thinks
Thank you You Tube
