UREI 1178

The 1176 & 1178 are two of my favourite compressors, like all good compressors they do what they are supposed to, they reduce the dynamic range without effecting the overall sound, i.e. you cannot hear them working. 

The 1178 is described by the manufacturer as a Peak Limiter however it is really a stereo Compressor with separate gain controls for the inputs and outputs, it has a fixed threshold so increasing the input gain has the same effect as lowering the threshold on a conventional compressor. 

There are 4 compression ratios,  4 to 1, 8 to 1, 12 to 1 & 20 to 1. but 1 set of compression switches so it can be used on 2 separate mono channels provided they both use the same compression ratio and the same release and attack settings.

There are 2 meters which can be switched between Gain Reduction and Output.
