Guy R Fountain was the founder of Tannoy in the 1930's, Tannoy is the longest surviving loudspeaker company in the world and they are renown for their dual concentric drivers, the serial numbers on the drivers suggest they were manufactured in the mid 1950's even so they are still in super condition.
Considering their age, over 60 years old, they are in excellent condition. Apart from a little staining on the front material they appear to be undamaged. The drivers have been tested by a UK Tannoy specialist company and were found to be in good working condition..
I believe these to be a pair corner standing Guy R Fountain memorial speakers, I have seen them before but there is no label on these ones. Tannoy 2 types of these speakers they made conventional free standing Guy R Fountain speakers and also corner standing speakers which is what we will have available very soon.
When we built our first studio in the 1970's we had a pair of Lockwood Major speakers loaded with original Tannoy Red speakers, not Super Red but the original Reds manufactured in the 1950's & 1960's the impedance was 15 Ohms however they were extremely efficient, we drove them with a Quad 303 Amplifier which surprisingly produced sufficient level for a large studio monitoring system. I bought them from a company called TRAD, run by Mr. John Southerd which is a name familiar to many people in our industry who are of a certain age. RIP John.
